Temperature Characteristics for Duration of an Instar in Cladocerans

چکیده

1. The temperature characteristics for the rate of development during a well defined instar were determined for three species of Cladocera, and found to be of the same general magnitudes as those obtained for rates of development and of O(2) consumption in other arthropods. 2. Critical temperatures were found to occur at points most frequently critical in quite diverse vital phenomena as determined by abrupt changes in the relationship between rate and temperature. 3. A suggestion is made that, since the values of micro and the positions of critical temperatures obtained for the different species are not the same, some relation may exist between the occurrence of these forms in nature and their relative rates of development as controlled by temperatures.

Effects of storage duration and temperature of hydro-primed wheat seeds on seed and seedling quality

Quality of seed as a propagating organ and the most valuable input to produce crops is highly important in agriculture. Thus, the objective of this study was to compare the effects of storage temperature (15, 20 and 25 °C) and storage duration (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8 days) of hydro-primed wheat seeds of Koohdasht dry land cultivar on germination and seedling characteristics. The seeds were hydro-prim...

Storage duration and temperature of hydroprimed seeds affects some growth indices and yield of wheat.

One of the methods for achieving more yields is to use seed priming technique correctly. When it comes to using seed priming, practically important issues should be taken into account including interval between priming to planting and conditions for storage of primed seeds. Thus, it is very crucial to be informed of duration and temperature for storage of primed seeds. This research seeks to co...

Effect of temperature on the interaction between Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) and Sipha flava (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

This paper examines some biological aspects and the predatory capacity of Chrysoperla externa fed nymphs of Sipha flava and reared at different temperatures. Recently hatched larvae were placed individually in Petri dishes, fed ad libitum with S. flava and reared at either 12, 16, 20, 24, 28 or 32 ± 1°C, a RH of 70 ± 10% and a 12-h photophase. The experiment was fully randomized with 30 replica...

Differences in Recruitment and Life-History Strategy Alter Zooplankton Spring Dynamics Under Climate-Change Conditions

In recent decades temperature elevation has been the focus of many studies on climate change, including effects on planktonic communities, but few studies have examined the effects of increased water color ("brownification"). Since these changes are likely to occur simultaneously, it is important to investigate their potential interactive effects. Accordingly, we performed a mesocosm experiment...

Surviving a flood: effects of inundation period, temperature and embryonic development stage in locust eggs

The Australian plague locust, Chortoicetes terminifera (Walker), is an important agricultural pest and oviposits into compacted soil across vast semi-arid and arid regions prone to irregular heavy summer rainfall. This study aimed to quantify the effects of flooding (control, 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days) at different temperatures (15, 20 and 25°C) and embryonic development stages (25 and 75%) on ...
